Haunted Bunk Bed is the electronic project of Las Vegas born singer-songwriter and composer Brenden K Jones. Having grown up in the punk scene while simultaneously consuming a steady diet of singer-songwriter heavyweights such as Springsteen, Zevon, Costello, and Reed, Jones’s initial goal in music was to merge aggressive and upbeat guitars with detailed punk poetry about the characters he encountered growing up in Vegas. However, after relocating to Colorado and pursuing a degree in Recording Arts Technology, he became enamored with sound design and grew disillusioned with the guitar-based indie rock he had played for over decade as the Midnight Disease. Jones ditched the moniker, ditched his acoustic guitar, and lost himself in drum programming and synthesis design where he began fusing ambient, house, electro pop, and noise. Through this experimentation Haunted Bunk Bed was born.

The first release from this project was a self-titled EP consisting of six instrumental tracks which proved Jones knows his way around synthesizers and sequencers and could easily harness the power of 90’s electronica. He now returns with the new EP “Spitting Ancient Screeds”, another collection of six songs, this time leaning into dream pop territory. The guitars are subtle and baked in fuzz, the synths expansive and awash in reverb, the drums glitchy and stuttered, harkening back to IDM of the early aughts. The EP is significant in that it marks Jone’s return to vocal music. Here his lyrics take on a more refined approach. Rather than specific settings or characters, he now aims for specific emotions and thoughts. Our internal lives are what matters most.

With a wide knowledge of electronic and experimental music to draw from, Jones promises that while the Midnight Disease may have been a singular vision, Haunted Bunk Bed will be many things all at once.
